WildLawn is Fescue-Free

The Search for the Perfect Lawn Grass

Truth be told, folks have been wanting a lawn that looks good, works well, and stays green all year without having to mow it. Unfortunately, there really is no such plant, grass or flower, than can do this year in and year out.

Fine fescue grass blends come the closest to the ideal but they have some noteworthy inconveniences: they’re stiff and clumpy and can become a trip hazard, they tend to rot easily in wet weather, and left unmown they grow about a foot tall. Fine fescue grass blends have been around for a long time but really haven’t caught on. While they might work for some people in some situations, its hard to make them work everywhere. Fine fescue grass blends use two or three non-native species from Europe and Asia, which is probably why they don’t work very well in the Northeast.

WildLawn is Different

WildLawn takes a different approach. While there is no single grass that can work in all situations, there is a unique grass, and sometimes a unique flower, that can work in each unique situation. The trick is knowing which plant will grow where. Here, our landscape restoration experience comes in handy. WildLawn has documented the plant species growing in over 500 locations, so we have a pretty good idea which plants grow where, and why.

Your WildLawn is as much of an ecological choice as well as an aesthetic choice. Together, we choose the plant species that will work best for you on your property. Then we get to work to grow them and get them planted for you.

WildLawns are fescue-free; we don’t use fescue unless you’re one of the lucky people for which fescue happens to be perfect choice. We’ll let you know if you are.
