Container Seed Mix

Enclosed is a custom-designed seed mix featuring native species that grow and bloom in low light conditions. Perfect for a balcony or patio that gets as little as 2 hours of direct sunlight per day.

This seed mix contains species that will grow the first year and others that might take up to 3 years to germinate, so be patient.

Please do not allow your container to dry out. Can be planted in the ground in a well-prepared garden bed.

Planting Instructions (Winter or Spring Planting only)

Step 1: Place cloth bag in a 1g Ziploc bag with this card and refrigerate.

Step 2: Place high-quality potting soil in a clean planter with drain holes. Shake bag & sprinkle the seed mix across the top of the potting mix.

Step 3: Shallowly mix the seed into the top ¼” of the potting mix.

Step 4: Place the container outside where it is subject to rain and snow.

Step 5: Mid-April, you will see little seedlings emerge. Move the container out of direct sunlight and use a spray bottle to keep the surface moist but not wet.

Step 6: When the seedlings are about 2” tall, move to permanent location.

Step 7: Water thoroughly ONLY when plants start to wilt.

WildLawn Pollinator Seed Mix

A custom-designed seed mix including some of the New York area’s most attractive and productive native species. Observe a wide range of insects - from tiny, harmless wasps, to honeybees, to butterflies. This seed mix contains both moist soil and drier soil species, so you should get good results wherever you sow.

Full sun to mostly sun is preferred; please avoid planting near maple trees as they withdraw too much water from the soil.

Step 2: Choose up to 1000 sq. ft. in your garden with 6 hours of sun.

Step 4: Work an ample amount of peat moss into the top 3” of the soil

Step 5: Shake bag & sprinkle seed mix over prepared soil; do not rake in.

Step 6: Sprinkle a little bit of peat moss over the seed. That’s it.

Step 7: Do not fertilize. You will get seedlings. Periodically weed.

Step 8: Do not water. Water deeply only if your seedlings/plants wilt.

WildLawn Lawn Sampler

Enclosed is a special native grass species used by homeowners, botanical gardens, nature centers, and historic cemeteries in areas where they want a grass but want to reduce mowing. The amount of seed in the bag is good for about 100 square feet or about 10’ x 10’. That’s a good size to try out.

If you like it and want to try the grass on a larger area, we have a range of options that make it easy to convert to a WildLawn.

Easy to grow. Non-clumping, lightweight, and springy, this grass is a real alternative to turf grass lawns. Not a trip hazard like non-native low-mow lawns. Add wildflowers for a wildflower lawn, or even a low meadow.

Trim as you like or let your WildLawn go wild. This grass grows to about 4-5” before gracefully leaning over to create a fun, wavy pattern in the lawn.
