wILDlAWN HISTORY
Our first inquiry was from an historic Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia wanting an attractive, low-growing, ground cover that could help manage weeds yet didn’t need mowing but a couple times a year. Plus, they wanted only native species that could happily grow care-free in shady, sometimes-wet areas while improving the environment. And, most interestingly, they wanted it to look like a lawn. A very challenging set of requirements. Our staff dug deeply into our inventory of native plant species and 10 years of ecological restoration experience and selected a few grass and flower species that might do the job. Viola! The experiment matured into an unqualified success. WildLawn was born.
Our second customer was an environmentally-conscious homeowner in Pittsburgh that just couldn’t stand to look at her traditional lawn anymore. It looked patchy, suffered from some type of disease, and was anyway more weeds than lawn. Worn-out by lawn care firms trying different grass seeds, chemicals, and sods, the homeowner found her way to us and decided to give WildLawn a try. After almost 5 years, she still couldn’t be happier with her wild lawn.
Today, WildLawn installations grace the front and back yards of homeowners in a wide range of conditions. WildLawns can also be found at nature centers, public areas, golf courses, and even in forest restorations.
Each WildLawn is little different and specifically designed for the space it occupies.
